The Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE), New Delhi grading system has been introduced at Secondary School level (for Classes IX & X) from 2009-10. It will minimize misclassification of students on the basis of marks. It will eliminate unhealthy competition among high achievers.
Scheme of Examinations (Grading): The student’s performance is assessed using conventional method of numerical marking. The ‘Grades’ are awarded on a nine point scale to indicate the subject wise performance. Those candidates who obtain the qualifying grades (D and above) in all the subjects excluding Additional subject as per Scheme of Studies are awarded a Qualifying Certificate. Those awarded a qualifying grade (D and above) in all the subjects excluding Additional subject as per Scheme of Studies are eligible for admission in Class XI. The practice of declaring Compartment/ Fail has been discontinued. The Result of a candidate indicates. Eligible for qualifying certificate (QUAL), Eligible for improvement of performance (EIOP).
The “Statement of subject wise Performance” is issued to all candidates which reflects the Grade, Grade Point (GP) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the average of Grade Points obtained in all the subjects (excluding 6th additional subject as per Scheme of subjects). Based upon Grade point (GP) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), percentage of Marks can be approximately computed as indicated.
CBSE 9th/10th Calss Grade Points:
A candidate obtaining Grade E1 or E2 in any or all the five subjects (excluding 6th additional subject as per the scheme of studies) is eligible for Improvement Of Performance in any or all the five subjects in only one attempt.
