The government has taken a principled stand on conducting the exam only in government institutions after the private colleges threatened to withdraw their exam centres for the crucial test just days before the exam. “We had earlier planned to give a carbon copy of the OMR sheets to students right after the exam to maintain transparency but in the changed circumstances we had to print new OMR sheets for 2.46 lakh candidates with new exam centre venues and candidates details. So we dropped the plan,” the EAMCET Convenor, N.V. Ramana Rao said.

The one-minute late rule will continue at any cost and students need to make their travel plans accordingly to reach the venue at least an hour before, said the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) Chairman, T. Papi Reddy. The one-minute norm starts from the main gate of the exam centre and those crossing the main gate in time will be allowed to reach the exam hall irrespective of the distance it is located within the campus. “We have appraised the exam centres and the superintendents on this issue quite clearly,” Prof. Ramana Rao said. In order to prevent impersonation the authorities have decided to finger prints of all the candidates at the exam centres. Biometric machines will collect the finger prints that would be used for future purpose as well. A picture would also be clicked at the venue and matched with the picture available in the hall-ticket. “All this will not take more than 30 seconds,” Prof. Rao said. The authorities are more careful with the medical exam where the possibilities of impersonation or cheating are high given the previous experiences. Details of all suspicious candidates have been passed onto the police for verification. Similarly, candidates who have applied with penal fee of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 10,000 will also be under scrutiny.
