Andhra Pradesh students can now write the Telangana EAMCET in their state with the Telangana Government agreeing to the AP Government’s request to conduct the test in their State.
The TS-EAMCET will be held in Vishakapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Kurnool and the decision has been conveyed to the A.P. Government. The decision was based on a request of the A.P. Government to the Telangana Government recently. The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) officials and the JNTU-H officials after deliberations decided to have the exam centres in four AP cities.
Last year, the facility was not extended to AP students in view of the bifurcation issues and the AP students chose to write in the border towns. While aspirants from Coastal Andhra chose cities like Khammam, Warangal, Kodad and Kothagudem, the Rayalaseema region students chose Wanaparthy and Mahabubnagar that were well connected to their cities by road and rail.
Officials said that last year 42,106 students from Andhra Pradesh wrote the TS-EAMCET of which 25,967 were from the Andhra University region, including 10,766 (engg.) and 15,039 (medical). From the Sri Venkateshwara University region 16,139 tested their luck that included 5,061 in engineering stream and 11,016 in the medical stream. Another 9,651 candidates applied from the non-Telugu speaking States. All these candidates would be eligible for 15 per cent non-local (un-reserved) quota.
Last year Telangana students also appeared in the AP-EAMCET and among these, 8,359 candidates applied for engineering and 11,813 for medical stream. The AP-EAMCET will be held on April 29 and the TS-EAMCET on May 2. So AP students will have some advantage as they go through their test few days earlier and better prepared.
