The council headed by L Venugopal Reddy, on December 29, had announced dates for all entrance tests, including Eamcet (for admissions in engineering, pharmacy, agriculture and medical colleges). The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Osmania University Telangana Joint Action Committee (OU-TSJAC) held protests in front of the state council office, demanding that the chairman, L Venugopal Reddy, step down. Students alleged that the state council was openly supporting the Andhra Pradesh government's policies, and the decision was taken without consulting Telangana officials.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has decided to challenge the decision to conduct CET in court. "We will fight the matter and approach high court if required. Students of Telangana will write entrance tests conducted by the state," said Papi Reddy, chairman of Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE).

Meanwhile, in a function of Telangana Junior College Lecturers Association, minister for education, Jagadish Reddy announced that the state will go for separate entrance tests. "The state was not consulted before the release of schedule. The state council cannot take a unilateral decision on the matter as that violates section 75 of the AP Reorganisation act," he said.

Education ministers of both states met governor ESL Narasimhan, but no consensus was reached. Reddy said that the state government has clarified it's intention not to join the entrance tests conducted by the Venugopal Reddy-led state council. This is the second time that the state council took a decision in favour of AP. The council wants to conduct common Eamcet counseling, and now it wants to conduct common entrance test," said Kalyan, an ABVP leader. The council should not take unilateral decisions if it represents both states, he said. Student representatives threatened that protests will rock the city if the council decides to go ahead with the common entrance and admissions in 2015.
