The NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) here received a confirmation from the Telangana government for filling the seats in its medical colleges through Post-Graduate Medical Entrance Test (PGMET)-2015 whereas the response of Andhra Pradesh government is awaited. Arrangements are being made by NTRUHS for conducting the test online in March and the AP government is expected to not raise any objection for making it a joint examination for both the States. “There is no disagreement between the two governments over PGMET, it is a matter of time before AP gives the go ahead”, a top official of NTRUHS.
It may be noted that the Governor had authorised the ‘Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences’ which substituted ‘NTR University of Health Sciences’ through NTR University of Health Sciences Act, 1986 (Telangana Adaptation) Order, 2014, to request the NTRUHS based in Vijayawada to conduct examinations and declare results related to the ‘current academic year’. Accordingly, NTRUHS has been given the mandate to conduct PGMET-2015. This is notwithstanding disaffiliation of all colleges and institutions affiliated to NTRUHS located in Telangana with effect from the ‘appointed day’.
NTRUHS has since gone ahead with the process of holding examinations for both the States as per a uniform schedule. PGMET-2015 is no exception to it but a date has not yet been fixed. What is awaited is A.P government’s confirmation. NTRUHS had sent a communication to the two governments regarding PGMET which is being conducted online for the first time in 28 years after the university was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao on April 9, 1986. The online format has been chosen to avoid the kind of irregularities that landed NTRUHS in a major trouble in early 2014.
